http://hillstreetdoc.wordpress.com/ The long awaited and anticipated first official showing takes place tonight featuring lots of Baggot Gap action.Based on Clive`s legendary Skate/BMX store on Hill St D1, back in the 80s, Ft the Juice contest at the point depot, the Bones Brigade Demo at the Top Hat as well as archival street footage. It aims to give the viewer a unique insight into Dublin`s early skate scene, and the trials & tribulations that faced active skaters in those dark times for the sport. Warrior Films produced the documentary as a labour of love type project with virtually no budget. Dave Leahy a Warrior employee is a former Hill St era skater along with Clive Rowen convinced director JJ Rolfe to take part on this epic venture. MONDAY MIXTAPE is the core of P-D-R. This was a nightmare to put together and prob` the same to watch. DVD Recorder synchronised with laptop for audio, I don`t know how I used to do it? Only having one or two tapes from the previous week (and a few random, flashback tapes) definitely helped. VHS-C (slow rewind) Hi-8 (weak battery) and DV were all used for this edit, and a whole lot tapes. On the ninth attempt I created this,(almost tuesday) The intro I planned, but as soon as the Rappers Delight Remix starts its all chaos, I missed out so much stuff I do plan on returning to this one day, but be warned MONDAY MIXTAPE will return at least once a month in TWENTY 12.

HUF x Haroshi x DLX - Opening Ceremony

Tokyo artist Haroshi made six pieces over six months, using recycled skateboards for this collaboration with HUF/DLX . The theme of each piece was inspired by skateboarding but diverse. HUF Headquarters,was the stage for a amazing show, when you enjoying free food & drink and the mind blowing Exhibition pieces with Tommy Guerrero and Ray Barbie jamming on stage you know your somewhere special.
Part of the Exhibition was a adjustable hydrant which set the height in 7ply, was then used as the marker for a rad high ollie contest. Hat`s off to Haroshi and Huf for backing him each piece is unique, for example check out the fully functioning Guitar Tommy Guerrero is playing.

The notorious Paul "Anthony" Rogowki aka "Gator" floats one over a death box at a disused pool (complete with Danzig tag) in his heyday back in 80s, before his break/lock down. The humble backside 180 ollie is a style icon in basic skateboarding, when preformed well it can outshine any modern day manoeuvre achieved sloppily.
Jeff Grosso looks at the origins of the trick in his latest "Love Letters to Skateboarding" Episode. He tracks down eccentric 1970s Pro Jeff Tatum who "Dreamt it up" then lived out the dream,proper PDR. It makes for fine viewing just like the trick itself! Stacy Peralta’s film, Bones Brigade : An Autobiography will have it's USA,West Coast premiere at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on the evening of Thursday, February, 2nd at 8:00pm. The red carpet starts at 7:00pm, see video below for Red Carpet footage of the Premiere. Hosted by Swansea Boyo Skin Phillips Don`t worry that`s where it all started its not the documentary.
I saw them twice as a child at Morfa Stadium in Swansea, on both occasions they we amazing performing double routines on Vert I`ve never seen the likes of since.
"Tommy Guerrero, Steve Caballero, Rodney Mullen, Lance Mountain, Mike McGill, Stacy Peralta and George Powell have all confirmed their attendance. A Q & A will follow the film. Unfortunately, Tony Hawk will be out of the country and will not be able to attend". That`s Powell-Peralta`s press release.
Can`t wait to see this myself, Stacy Peralta`s film making is on whole new level since he created the bones brigade video show, not to mention the skaters themselves. He had the foresight to create the standard Skateboard video as we know it today, team based, and what a talented team who all remain within the skateboard industry even though they all have many talents and achievements in many other fields. Conhuir Lynn is the most accomplished Irish Skateboarder of all time, hands down. I first witnesssed his skate ability at one of the infamous Paddy`s day Comps at the Arcadia,Cork in 2000. I travelled over on the Swansea/Cork ferry, all us Welsh lads presumed our young gun Josh Perrett was a dead cert for the U-16s trophy and cash prize, well he got 2nd- Conhuir got 1st. Conhuir cut his teeth at Boarder-Co, after Wayne G spotted his raw talent aged just 14. After winning almost every comp he entered within Eire, Unabomber skateboards who his mentor Bernie Rea skated for at the time offered him a chance of touring the UK via joining their team he snapped it up (he was still only 16).
This progressed to a lot more travel/coverage within UK which led to slots on Blueprint, Etnies and Quicksilver European Teams.And when Liam moved to Barcelona the Rea brothers passed the Monkey Bird baton to the Lynn brothers and they`ve done a fine job in keeping the soldiers ready for action and filming regular. Now he was getting paid his air fare and accomodation to travel at skate comps across the length and breadth of Europe. At this stage full page Ad`s were the norm in the likes of Kingpin,Sidewalk,Document, Hell I even seen him on the back page of Mongrel Tre- Bombing down stairs in a Quicksilver Advert. Jamie Thomas was next to spot his obvious flare and consistency and invited him over to stay at the Black- Box Skatepark/Hostel train facility in California, where he`s been visiting for several years as Team rider for Slave. 2011 has been busy as ever, A section in the Slave Video,a full part in the Sidewalk Video, A move From Vox to DC , Bones wheels (= swiss bearings) and 3rd Place in UK championship with a fat £1000 cheque. Conhuir is so good he can even make Tallaght look dope- B/s Flip. On top of that Belfast got the Bridges skatepark, his brother Denis has got his own full sponsorship and cold winter nights can be spent at Unit-13. Up MONKEYBIRD.

Richard D James came up with the idea of controlling a 48 piece string section and a 24 strong choir by remote control, using midi controllers, lots of headphones and some remote visual cues, after being commissioned to write some pieces for the European culture congress in Poland.

Volume 3 goes deep into the Vaults circa 2002 I think? Filmed on 8mm camcorder that myself and Pancho purchased from Catolouge Bargain shop in PT for a bargain £80. It held out till a trip to Barcelona a few years later, when we parted ways with it at Macba for €20, after we missed our flight we hocked it for some booze money Ha ha. So embrace the grain, the edit is a bit ropey but so was the 8mm i used, no matter the amount of out of focus footage I had sift through. Well this is tape 1 from that era, and believe or not I`m holding back the gold from it, so enjoy tha SHIZZ!

I began my skateboarding odyssey back around 1986/87, hard to pin point when. My first legit trick was the frontside Boneless, as learned from the diagram above. In the eighties Boards weighed twice what they do now, so as a pre-teen this became a invaluable way to hop (rather than Pop) up or off obstacles. For years it seemed to be rated as a lame trick, always in the shadow of its backside brother, who claimed all the Kudos. But much to my delight I have noticed a resurgence in its popularity in the last year or two. So to mark its rise up the ranks of tricks again, I decided to showcase it in its most natural form - back in the Eighties. Viva La F/S Boneless!!! Unsung Hero Rodga Harvey, a die hard skater to this day. A Cornishman who took up skateboarding in 1977, when after moving to London found it the ideal alternative to stop his surf cravings . I also cropped a bit of a interview he did with RAD magazine where he explains the origins of flat land Ollie`s in the UK. I first met NOB in 2003 when he was workin on this vast project "Collective" trying to film every cat he could on the island of Ireland. Transfering this filthy dust ridden sleeveless copy of a VHS, actually took down two VCR`s by dirtying the heads,( try finding a headcleaner these days). I got the tape off Shane Meehan (PROPS) who features in the trememdous friends section. Well here it is on tha interweb for you all to watch, share, embed but mostly enjoy. East Skateboards was established in 2004 by Dave Mackey. It`s original team was Mackey, Tony Da Silva, Owain John, Josh Perrett, Scottish Ferg & Welsh Tommy. Mackey Co owner of Liverpool`s Lost Art skate store choose the name after his love for East-Coast raw street style. With graphics drawn by Comic/Tattoo Artist Kev Gray (clip below) or Graffiti Artist Kid Acne (see clip above) and solid Canadian maple the boards looked fresh and proved hard to break or delam`. Above you can see their full length Video release "Vapors" which hi-lights the by then extended team, with each skater getting full sections. During filming Matthew "Dykie" Ryan infamously recieved several stitches very close to his eye, trying to keep up with one of Mackey`s Mach-10 lines through Liverpool. East were also the first board sponsor Korahn Gayle ever had, his talents were spotted and he joined the roster and appeared in 2 Big Push`s with the team. When things got tight in the skate Industry around 2007, Mackey decided to fold EAST and focus on keeping Lost Art afloat. Chief filmer Dykie decided to keep the nucleus of the EAST team and started CRAYON skateboards. Once Crayon established itself, they had the clout to poach Korahn off Blind Europe. And with the recent launch of Pro-boards they`ve become one of the UK`s elite skate brands. R-I-P EAST skateboards gone but never forgotten.

Andrew "The Boss" Reynolds has been big in the skate game for ever, I first noticed him as a child progidy on Union Wheels 1992 "Right to skate" Video see clip below. When Tony Hawk set his own company up (Birdhouse) he saw Reynolds as a perfect example of the new age of street skater, he wanted to represent his teams image. Check his part from Birdhouse`s seminal "The End" video. After filming "The End" he decided to start his own Board Company-Baker in 1999, Tony Hawk thought it was a good idea and helped him distribute/manufacture product through his own "Blitz Distribution". When the "Baker Bootleg" video dropped in 1999, Baker with its team of street assasins broke through to the Elite bracket of skate teams.His OCD is famous, proberly helped encourage it to a whole new generation, or at least made skaters feel less strange if they suffered from their own "Madness", see clip below to hear him explain his own Ticks. These next two interviews give you a better insight than I ever could. So after sobering up,and following a self-imposed strict health food diet, he felt physically ready to film, for arguably his greatest ever video part in Emerica`s 2010 "Stay Gold". Before he started Blueprint Skateboards,back in 1995, Alvin at Faze 7 created "PANIC" skateboards, and their first Pro rider was Matt Pritchard. His original pro model (pictured above) was the Tidy board, drawn by fellow Cardiff skater Pete Fowler who went on to do many other graphics for Pritch as well as numerous Album covers for the Super Furry Animals (google him, he`s a great Artist).. Check the clip below to see Pritchard, Dainton,Pancho, Fowler, Mike Jenkins & Lego tear up the Bay in Cardiff, back in the days you were more likely to cross paths with Pimps/prostitutes around that way, than the Hipsters and Tourists you see frequent there now.
